Kommunikationsverlust: nur eine Frage der Zeitnot?

Zusammenfassung

Kommunikation ist ein unverzichtbarer Bestandteil medizinischen Handelns. Dennoch ist die Medizin noch weit davon entfernt, den Anspruch einer „kommunikativen Medizin“ zu erfüllen. Viele Patienten leiden unter einem sich verschärfenden Mangel an ärztlicher Kommunikation und Zuwendung. Zugleich belegen sämtliche einschlägige internationale Studien der vergangenen Jahrzehnte den engen Zusammenhang zwischen Kommunikationsqualität und Krankheitsgeschehen: Positive, mitfühlende Kommunikation trägt nachweislich zum besseren Heilungsverlauf bei. Heute wissen wir auch durch die Forschungsergebnisse der Psycho-Neuro-Immunologie, dass Kommunikation und Heilen untrennbar zusammengehören. Der Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit einigen zentralen Voraussetzungen, wie ärztliche Kommunikation ihr heilsstiftendes Potenzial entfalten kann.

Abstract

Communication is an indispensable aspect of medical action. Nevertheless, medicine is still far removed from the aspirations of being a “communicative medicine”. Many patients suffer from an increasing lack of communication and proper attention by doctors. At the same time, numerous international studies conducted over the past several decades clearly indicate that there is a close relationship between the quality of communication and the outcome of treatments. The findings show that positive, empathic communication contributes demonstrably to a better healing process. Today we know from the latest studies in the field psycho-neuroimmunology that communication and healing are inseparably linked. This article focuses on some of the prerequisites for such medical communication and how it may develop its potential.
